My corsa will be 3 years on April 1st and booked it in for it's 1st mot today and guess what yes it's failed on front coil snapped, I have asked to look at coil and the garage seems to be fobbing me off. He says he's having trouble getting new one due to car not being that old, yeh right! My car now is stuck in their garage overnight till he gets the part. Is this broken coil my property and can I demand it as I think he's pulling a fast one. Talked to me like as if I were thick, suspicious!!! Plz advise

Is the car still under warranty I believe that most recent Vauxhall s come with a 1 +2 year warrany.
Might be worth talking to the Vauxhall dealer if not covered by warranty they my be able to put a goodwill claim in on your behalf-- assuming its a manufacturing defect.

Springs often fail as the ends are cut in manufacture(rather than formed) and then rust gets in.

coil springs can break and you would not necessarily feel it. However the MOT station has a viewing area so you can see the test carried out. Any reputable garage would show you the problem areas and discuss work required prior to carrying out repairs etc. Most customers do not want the displaced parts, but it is wise to keep parts to one side until customer says they are not required. I would recommend springs are changed as pairs. In answer to your question I would think that the parts are yours. Remember that anyone can repair your car, but a retest fee may be applied (see retest fees)

Broken springs are very common on vehicles you may have been driving around for a long time and not know its broke.If you have a replacement spring fitted the garage should be able to show you the old spring and they should be able to show you the new one when its fitted to your car if you ask.

Stop bitchin'. coil springs do break,and you can ask to see the old part if you need to, go and pick up your car with its nice new spring and MOT, pay the man & leave. No big deal!
