lawnmower engine problem?

my lawnmower has a Honda gcv135 engine.The problem is that it will start up on choke but on normal running stops after a few seconds.This is the first time I have used it since last autumn.

Stale fuel, or dirt in the carb, drain tank and re fill with fresh fuel, if still no go, it will need the carb cleaning.
