Heater Matrix/Head gasket?

I was wondering if anyone can help. I took my car to the garage today and the owner thought it could be the headgasket (dont no if he has just seen pound signs as i am a young female)and another one thought it could be the heater matrix.

I have put over 4 litres of water in the car in 2 days. The water seems to be swashing around under the passangers seat and leaves the water holder (sorry i dont no the names lol) as soon as engine is running. The heaters work almost all the time and only goes cold for a second or two now and then. The oil seems fine. And as its an 98 megane i wouldnt say there is anymore smoke in exhaust than is expected. What do you think it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. They have told me to think about it over weekend but to expect maybe a 450 bill if i decided to put it in......

I spoke to a garage today that specialises in renaults and they have said they can take it in on monday. The guy said it sounds as if there maybe a leak in one of the pumps.. I drive a round trip of 3 miles a day to the trainstation would you advise this if i kept filling it with water?

changing the matrix is a lot cheaper its just a bit arkward as the dashboard might have to come out , i would deffo get it tested if i was u its only a cupple ov quid just for piece ov mind

Thanks thats great i was swaying with that aswell and im i was hoping. Do you know if the heater matrix is a cheaper choice than the gasket. I only paid 800 for the car so not looking to spend 450 in on.

The temp is usually good. Stays about the half way mark.. Climbs up to it maybe after 3 miles... But never goes above halfway.

watch ur temp gauge when driveing make sure it doesnt overheat , take the oil filler cap off and see if uve got any mayo lookin residue inside. to be honest it does sound like the heater matrix thats y there is water inside u can get it tested and they can test if there is exhaust fumes in the header tank
