How can I fix the choke control on my Mcculloch chain saw?

I have a mcculloch chain saw (Mac 538). The choke control has broken. Normally it has 2 positions full and half way but now the blue lever will not sit in position and the choke is permanently in the full on position. Nothing appears to have snapped or broken but I cannot see what has happened to create the condition.

The choke is normally a simple push/pull rod, conected to the choke shaft on the carb, if it will not push back in it may be the choke flap in the carb has come loose and jamming in the carb body
