flush the system out with a hose pipe,remove coolant pipe from radiator and jet water through the rad,pipes and header tank.refit pipe and fill system with coolant and water to required level.

Down drain - on the garden - probably best down the drain - many radiators have chemicals in them to lower the freezing point of the liquid - some have no water in them at all - so on the garden could cause problems.
