can a stone flicking up cause a new cambelt to break ?

i had a new cambelt and reconditioned engine fitted 6 months ago. cambelt just broke again and garage says sometimes they only last five minuites as a stone can damage them

there can be other factors that may cause cambelt failure, such as the tensioner failing or water pump bearing failure/seizure(if it's driven by the cam belt). do you know if new water pump & tensioners where fitted to the engine or swapped from the old engine?. in my experience, these items are not normally supplied with reconditioned engines.

the cambelt should have covers fitted to stop this from happening.the chance of it happening is like winning the lottery!.Slim.think he is trying it on
