hi started engine started fine put car into gear and it wont move tried reverse and same happened but it feels like its trying too can you help thanks

If it feels as if it is trying ie jerking backwards or forwards it is possible that the rear brakes have seized or rusted on. My car's brakes rust on in a couple of weeks in wet weather when the car is not used. I free them by forcing the car to break the "stiction" by rocking backwards and forwards (with the handbrake released).

if you definitely know it is selecting gears sounds like you have a clutch problem,the clutch cable may be badly stretched and out of adjustment.if you have an oil seal leak the clutch fibre linings can be contaminated and clutch slips with no vehicle motion.clutch may be worn out part or of it brocken,some vehicles have a cover plate on the bellhousing you can remove to see part of the clutch system.
