Megane caught fire! Has this happened to anyone else?

I got into my 1.6l 2006 megane the other day and put both the front windows down to clear the condensation on the outside and then my window (driver side) wouldn't go back up. I left for work thinking I would stop at the local dealer on my way to work but about a mile into my journey there was black smoke pouring out of the window gap in the door. I pulled up as quickly as I could, got out (and got my baby son out) and as we ran from the car my door burst into flames! My car isn't even 4 yrs old yet and I think this is horrifying. It was incredibly traumatic as I am sure you can imagine. Can anyone else tell me if this or anthing similar has ever happened to them? I am trying to gather whether this is a common fault or isolated incident before contacting Renault. Thank you

Don't bother investigating - just go to the dealer or call them.

A fault in the door winding gear is not a problem - any door might fail in any car. The problem is that it didn't fail-safe - a fire broke out.

Car manufacturers are very twitchy about problems of this sort just now - speak to a senior person and gently drop into the conversation something like... "I have not told anybody about this because my guess is that Renault would not want any bad publicity."

Good luck...

My windows regularly stick in the down position..never caught fire though. Look on the renault forumsthis could be e recall issue
