Do you need an engineer?

I'm a fire and security service/install engineer, Email me your problem if I cant talk you through it I will come out to you for a fraction of the call out fee you would be charged by most security companys as long as your located in the north west.

Absolutely nothing wrong with M&W panels, lots are still going strong after 25yrs +.

What is on Zone 1, door contact, movement detector, pressure pad, that's where the problem is?

Post again, should be easy to solve, also, double check the M&W number there has never been a 1590

many moons ago there was a firm called munford & white, who's products became tunstall, tunstall became menvier, menvier became cooper menvier

as for fixing I suspect cheaper to replace with a modern system

I've never heard of a M&W 1590, thats probably the problem... It false alarming could be something or nothing I wouldn't know unless I was their to test it but going of the manufacture name it could well be a faulty panel!
Is it alarming whilst set or unset? Did you take note which led's were lit whilst it was alarming?
