Each model is a bit different, but normally you remove the two bolts in the shaft end of the trimmer, Remove the throttle cable at the carb. Pull the shaft and handle to the side (you can disconnect the wires it you would like and move the whole shaft assy. out of the way. You will now have to remove the clutch housing cover (if equipped) Normally there is a star headed screw in the center of it so you willl have to have a star screw driver. Once you have removed the housing you will have to remove the clutch by looking on the end and see which way the arrow says to remove. You will have to do this with a piece of brass and hammer. Once you get it off remove the 4 screws that hold the housing on the starter rope, remove the starter rope from the housing, put new rope on, wound the same way as old rope then pull through the slots in the spool and place in the starter assy. now take two or three rounds opposite the direction of you pull to wind the spring. Pull end through the hole in starter housing and install the handle.
