loose handbrake and spongy brakes?

hello, on my 206 (51 reg) the hand brake has SUDDENLY(one day fine and the next not fine) gone very loose and at the same time the foot brake has gone very spongy, it still works but travels virtually all the way to the floor before it has any effect, and the hand brake is virtually upright before working, there's no sign of fluid on the floor and the level in the brake reservoir is fine. any help please ?

on these, it is very common for the brake lining to become separated from the shoes. replacement of the brake shoes will be necessary

Sounds like the automatic adjuster may have fallen out from between the shoes. If you pump your brake pedal and get a firm pedal then let the brake off and the pedal goes spongy again its probably the return springs. pushing the brake fluid back to the master cylinder.
