Speedfight starting problems?

Hi

My stepson's 100cc Speedfight 2 apperently just "died" the other day while being ridden. First thoughts were a dead battery or the spark plug. The battery is OK and fully charged and a new spark plug has been fitted which has a spark when shorted against the frame. there's petrol getting through to the carb but still the engine won't fire. Could there be an electronic problem somewhere or has anyone any idea what the problem might be.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Thanks Adam, I don't think he was going to fast at the time but a piston problem is at the back of my mind.
Any idea what a compression test on the cylinder should read?

it sounds like he has seized it up!was he going fast just before it cut out?the most likely thing is that the engine has had a partial seizure which has damaged the piston and/or bore this will lower the compression enough for it to stop it starting usually you can get it started by putting some 2 stroke oil in the spark plug hole and kicking it over this raises the compression and will get it going but this is not a cure and it will need a new piston at least before its happy again.if its a 50cc model they have a nickel plated bore which is expensive to get re -plated and if its 100cc then its about £25 for a rebore piston kits are about £25 and a top gasket set is about £15
