Hi my renault scenic automatic is jumping from 4th down to 3rd and displays electronic fault it seemsto be getting worse and i fear this could be expensive.

once i turn the engine off and on it then goes okay for a while.

When the transmission computer detects a fault it will go into fail-safe (third). No solenoids are activated hence it can thump due to no pressure regulator solenoid working. Rebooting the computer by restarting the car will clear for a while. Codes need to be read. Most common is pressure regulation. for specialist in your area www.fedauto.co.uk
