Renault laguna gear selection problem?

I have a 1996 Renault laguna 1.8RT. The problem i am havving is that when trying to select 1st or reverse for the first time it crunches into gear. If i select any other gear first and then put it into 1st or reverse then its fine. Could it be due an oil change or could the clutch be faulty?? As i said once a gear is selected then its fine.

Hello sounds like a clutch problem to me,without seeing the car cant be a 100% certain.
I rebuild gearbox,s for a living have done for over 10 years now, this gearbox has ep80/90 oil in it which is too thick for the synchromesh,so i always put 10/40 engine oil in them,it wont do any damage or cause any problems what so ever.
