If I understand your uestion correctly: Your SIM works in your Wife's phone and your phone works with your wife's SIM?
Try cleaning the SIM contacts on the card and phone with a pencil erase then wipe off any residue. Clen the battery contacts the same way. If that doens't work, it sounds like some kind of pairing error which only range can fix.
BTW. Who fitted the new case? If it was a thrid party then take it back to them for fixing because they induced the error in the first place and are responsible under the Supply of Goods & Services Act.
