check your fuse first its number 5 in fuse box (fifth from left ) then check condition of your wiper motor for loose bolts or rods jammed and yes its easy to do yourself if motor at fault goto scrapyard for 1 its cheaper

When this happened on my Golf it was the bolts holding the moter having worked loose - The motor shifted and jammed up the linkage.
