I have a petrol flymo quicksilver 46s. It starts but cuts out immediately?

I have a flymo quicksilver 46s. It starts but cuts out immediately. My husband has replaced the oil (4 stroke) put in new petrol (unleaded) and attempted to clean the spark plug but to no avail. Any suggestions? Would a new spark plug fix the problem or is something else wrong?
