How can re-gas an office chair?

I am thinking of purchasing an office chair (on wheels with gas lift), which needs to be re-gassed. Is this something that anyone can do? or does a specialist chair repairer need to do it?
Make and model is unknown at this stage.
Thank you
Jude

Sort of worked for me, but I think my chair is now unable to be lifted higher any more...was a cheap chair anyway....will have to save up for a new one....

Thank you, saw this whilst searching for a repair man, tried it and it works. Turned upside down, pressed the lever once and turned back again. Adjusted the height and at this stage, has maintained the correct height. August 2016

I just turned my office chair upside down, played with the lever once and it gassed up again. Now it is set at the right height for me and I am very happy.

I though mine needed re-gassing, which it what brought me to this site! On inspecting my chair to look for the cylinder, I turned it upside down looked at the mechanism (nothing more) pushed and released the side lever, pulled the seat up to full extension and turned it right way up again. Bingo -seat stayed up, bounce is back....... Don't know for how long, but it was very firmly deflated before!!

You don't re-gas, you replace the gas cylinder. It's easy enough, so long as you have a good hammer. The gas lift is only held in place by force, no screws or anything. Bash it apart, put in a replacement gas lift. put it back together. Not rocket science.
