New barrel / piston on Speedfight?

I have just fitted a new barrel / piston on my sons speedfight. With the spark plug out the engine / piston turns over with good compression. When I fit the spark plug the engine does not turn over on the electronic start. He does not have kick start mech. It seems that there is to much compression for the engine to turn over just on the electronic starter. Is this normal?

as long as you have a little power in the battery the kickstart will always start the engine assuming everrything is ok mechanically

Thanks for your quick answer. I will check out the wiring and also battery. If he uses the kick start should this make the difference and start the bike!

no, it would of course has enough power from new to turn the engine over with the electric start, the problem is either with the battery being low on amperage or the starter motor being weak.i would suggest getting a battery on it that you know is ok and see how it is then and after that fit another starter motor, but check that the green earth lead from the battery is bolted firmly to the side of the starter motor as this can cause a break down in current to the motor if its dirty or loose ect...ps i take it the main bearing are not all rough an thats why its not turning over ok it will be very noisy and sound like grinding metal.
