mondeo?

the front left hand brake is jamming on and there is smoke coming from the wheel it releases itself then jams back on

welshy, there is no handbrake fitted to the front of any mondeo there for this is a case of a locking brake piston or very worn brake pads to investigate remove the offending wheel ther you will see the brake disc and the brake caliper which holds the brake pads if the pads are worn then remove and fit new[ i would guess they will be worn if brake sticking], before fitting the new pads make sure the piston which operates the pads when the brakepedal is pushed is moving freely if it is then ok to fit new pads if its not then, replace the caliper back on without the pads in place this will allow you to[with the bleed screw open] to push the piston back into place once the piston is moving remove caliper and fit new pads[dont forget to close the bleed screw] good luck m8

"Front left handbrake" ???? If you mean the brake on the front left wheel? You have a siezed piston. To describe this needs pictures so i suggest that you buy a Haynes manual.
