The 2nd failsafe lock seizes over a period of due to lack of lubrication. Bit of spray grease after a bit of wd40 works. But as the prev answer sudgested if the bonnet lifts to the first stage from the bonnet release inside the car you can lift the bonnet slightly. ( Next bit you need long thin screwdriver and maybe a torch) looking at the catch you will see a catch with a hole in in. leaver this to the right and Hey Presto!! Just remember now it's open spray grease the lock. Goodluck!!

If the bonnet opens just a little but is still locked then use a long flat screwdriver. Lift up the bonnet as far as it will go and you should be able to see the hook with a hole in the side of it. Use the screwdriver to prise the hook to the right, it will take a lot of fiddling but it does work. This will only work if it opens a little when you pull the bonnet release lever inside the cabin.

I'm sure u can access the catch thru the VW badge on front grill......might be some fun tho getting it released when u remove the grill badge tho
