Whats wrong with my vw sharan 1.9tdi?

I can only select 3rd & 4th gear, no 1st 2nd 5th or reverse as gear stick wont travel across the nuetral gates.

check the cables attached to your gearbox from gear selector will be lowest of the 2 rear side of gearbox
