My 54 reg transit connect won't pair with my new ford key fob ?

I have tried the 8 times method but the doors don't lock and nothing seems to happen.? Any advice?

put new battery in remote turn ignition from off to on 8 times in 10 sec on 8th time leave on doors lock then unlock then press and hold any button within 10 secs doors will lock then unlock to confirm programe activated
