How do I get the ICatch VI PC CAMERA to lighten up?

The camera doesn't catch light properly and everything is dark except when you're right next to the camera and the light shines off you're face. How can this b fixed?

I had the same problem this helped, Dowmload an update from windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/itemdetails.asp?id=sumplustechnology whql.10057513 then in the cameras video settings set the auto exposure to 60HZ and in the properties of the camera set color space to 1420. adjust the other settings as needed. use good backlight that does not flow into the camera and light the front of the subject with light above the camera and not in subjects face.
