Can I use a different bar & chain to the one supplied with my Sthil MS170?

I have an old 14" 35cm Oregon bar, can I use it with my Sthil MS170 (bar is also 14"). It seems to be working fine, I just don't want to damage my saw.

I would suggest the two chains are different tooth widths. The original Stihl bar uses Picco Micro 1.1mm drive links (Oregon 90SG) and the Oregon bar would use the wider 1.3mm drive link (Oregon 91VG 91VX) The chains are NOT interchangeable. One will be too lose a fit in the bar and the other too tight.

As long as it fits ok, and the oil hole in the bar is the same, and the sprocket nose of the bar is the same pitch as the saws sprocket, it should be fine.
