The lever for the bonnet release cable has just stopped working and so I can't open the bonnet. The lever feels loose but I don't think the cable has snapped. This is on a 2001 Fiat Punto. How can I get to the engine compartment to see what is wrong ?

just had same problem, you need to get under the car and stretch your hand up between the engine and the rad. you will be able to feel the cable going to the lock, just push the cable towards the drivers side headlight and the bonnet should open, as a temp fix i managed to get a cable tie from the lock to the grill as to open it.
