I have two plastic gear link rods about 6" in length and the bottom lever/rod keeps loosening from the metal dome on gearbox,I am told this is common!Am sick of stopping and pushing it back on just to get home,anyone with a good cheap practical solution?

The ball & socket joint is worn so just replace it with new parts. They come in a kit & as they're a common part which wears, you can probably buy them spurious. You should also be able to do the repair yourself if you have a couple of spanners & a manual which would be useful.
