Flash Problem?

I have a Fuji Finepix S5800 and it will not taken any photographs where flash is required. All other functions are fine. Can I DIY repair?

The flash operates via a solenoid wich releases a catch and pops the flash up. There is also a spring which aids the flash to stay up once it's activated. When the flash pops up it releases a micro switch which powers the flash, this is so the flash doesn't work when in the down position.
Emma Jane- yours sounds like the spring has come off.
Alan Potter- yours sounds more like an electrical fault. possibly with the flash charging circuit or the fuse for the flash.
In either case a strip down is required to find out the cause.

Hi... I have a similar problem and it is driving me nuts and if I dont get it fixed soon i could be in quite some trouble. May I ask is your flash popping up properly because the one on mine isnt but when i hold it up it will flash... i fear that something internal like a spring or popper up is broken... If you know anything that can help me please email me at emma.j "ntlworld.com
Thanks EmmaJane
