Can't start 98 Ford Duetto?

Just bought a duetto and when we went to start it after a huge journey battery light stayed on and wouldn't turn over but when we sparked the starter motor with key in ignition and tried to start it it started after one or two tries has anyone any ideas? We have only one set of keys. The overhead immobiliser is flashing red when switched off and goes off when starts. No key showing on dash display. It a 98 model. Thanks

check dynamo, alternaror(regulator) and belt. One of those must be failing. This causes your battery to drain during operation, instead of charging during operation
