vauxhaull omega auto - reving but not moving?

would if you could help oout in my vauxhall omega todayand it was driving fine then it revs itself but no accelaration and just slows to a stop..

please help i have to get from newcastle to stockton tomorrow

think its gearbox..but you cant use the gears manually the smae thing happens it revs like hell but is moving at like 3 miles an hour just no accelaration. checked the transmission fluid and thats fine. the engine management light (a car with a spanner on it) has been on for a while but i was told not to worry about that

I need more to go on. First is it an engine or box fault. Is any fault display on dash? If box fault use gearlever manually, you should get 3 out of the 4 gears. In limp mode you will be pulling away in fourth in D. When you say it slows to a stop could the brakes be binding. Easier to diagnose hands on, hope this helps a bit.
