8valve will only go in reverse and move backwards when forward gear is sellected car just sits still has anybody had the same fault and how do i reapair it thanks

band has probably broke. Start car and try holding shift lever between drive gears. It will cause the transmission to go in limp mode and will drive forward. Releasing the lever will lose drive again. If held to about 30 MPH on release it will go on to 4th gear. To drive to garage safely, disconnect the gearbox computer in N as P will lock the shifter. for specialist www.fedauto.co.uk
