Change the oil on my mazda 626 2.0 ltr gxi 1997 r reg?

I want to change the oil as the car has done 130k miles and tends to burn oil . so I want to avoid a build up of small particles of metal in the "reduced" oil by changing the oil monthly. Do I need to change the oil filter each time too ?

I'm afraid that your logic is flawed. You car burns oil because the engine is worn. So you should keep and eye on your oil level and keep it up to scratch. DO NOT OVERFILL. Having said that most cars will show some (small) benefit from 6 monthly oil changes. Modern oil is extremely good and more frequent oil changes will not show any benefit on an old car. Always change the filter when you change the oil.

Changing the oil monthly is excessive, you'll find it better to change it every 3 months, about the oil filter I would change it every second oil change i.e once every 6 months, if you do the oil every 6 months.
