Internet explorer Question?

Suddenly when using internet explorer I can only view one page at a time which is annoying as if I select a link on a web page The original is lost i.e it is not retained in the task bar at the bottom of the screen. Before I could have several pages sitting there so I could return to them but now only one.
I tried Tools, Internet options, Advanced and restore default but still the same. I think it is internet explorer 6 and I use windowsXP.
Any ideas/suggestions very much appreciated?

Go to: Tools, options, privacy, history and check that it doesn't say "Remember pages for 0 days"

try folder options in control panel and select open each in new window

Many thanks for replying.
I tried this as suggested but unfortunately the problem remains as the result is similar to keying F5 and refreshing as the same page is displayed. Also tried File and new window.

you could try right clicking the link and then open in new window.
