honda st 1100 gearbox fault?

my pan has a problem, when you change gear the gear lever is not returning, its lost its spring back action has anyone got any ideas what the problem might be!!

more than likeley the selector shaft return spring.is the lever floppy if you lift it up and down?there is a forked spring that breaks on them.
