why does my lamda sensor light stay on?

the engine seems to be running on choke,the make of my car is..vauxhall corsa year 2000,1100 engine.

your lambda sensor is part of your mixture control system and when fails can result in mixture going haywire what you need do is replace it and get a bottle of cataclean and follow instructions for cleaning your catalytic converter too
