Westwood T1800H won't turn over?

I'd been mowing for ca. 1.5 hrs and the drive belt to the hydrostatic transmission slipped off - whilst in mowing fwd with the powered grass collector. I refitted the drive belt and since then the mower doesn't turn over. I hear the click at the carbie when the key is turned to the 1st position - and the battery light is on, but it won't turn over - brake is on (sprung t/mission safety switch is engaged), and deck lever up. A hard wire from the +ve to the small termimal on the solenoid turns the engine over (btw, new battery), but it won't start - there's not even a spark from the lead to the plug. Fuel line seems ok, and not blocked. All electrical wires seem ok. Mower, when pushed, rolls a bit hard if fwd, extremely hard in rvse and can be heard in the transmission when rolled in rvse.

And idea's; tips; a fix; and a wiring diagram would be great if anyone has one or knows where I can get hold on one.

Cheers
