renault espace 2.2 dt 2000 on X plate?

T/Belt snapped does it actually damage the valves ??? or has anyone had a snapped belt on the said vehicle replaced it and it has been ok ??

wont hurt to put a belt on it and do a compression test prior to rmoving the head if repair needed it is an interferance engine so most likely to have 2 to 4 valves gone if engine revs low when snapped
