my hotpoint wt960 will not unlock so i am unable to open the door - any suggestions

You can release it from inside the washer.
Take the lid off and you will see the release unit. it has some wires connected to it.
Towards the right hand side of this unit you will see a small metal stud.
With a flat blade screw driver push this to the right.
The door will then release.
