Singer 201K sewing machine bobbin problem?

I have found a beatuiful 1958 Singer 201K sewing machine - which seems to run fine until I try and put a bobbin in it. The top thread seems to loop under the top of the bobbin case - anyone got any bright ideas? the shuttle race seems to hook the top thread to make it do this. I cannot see any obvious bends in the shuttle race that should not be there

Hello Marilyn,
First of all remember that the 201 needle must have the flat side facing left, the machine threads right to left, make sure you have the correct bobbins for that machine, not the bobbin with holes in, you must use proper Singer plastic or metal bobbins which are used for all models with a drop in bobbin .
Top tension about 4 or 5.
