veritas 8c alarm?

I have just moved into a house with the veritas 8c I have called the company and they talked me through how to change the code but I want to set the alarm on a night and it goes off as soon as i go downstairs before i get to the panel. Does any one know how to change this setting as they told me I would have to get an engineer out to change it?

Hi here is a link to a manual for your alarm:

I assume you have a sensor en route to the panel, this sensor needs to be changed from 'Guard' to Entry/exit or Double knock. This will enable you to have more time to reach the panel. You can change the zone type for each PIR sensor in your home to meet your needs. See page 23 of the manual. I inherited my alarm with my house and have been able to re-programme it without an expensive engineer.
