problem with hot water on ariston boiler?

hi all
i have ariston boiler which we inherited when moving in to house but have major problem with hot water.
when running a bath the tap has to be open slightly for the water to be hot if opened up more it goes cold also the boiler flame always cuts in and out when running bath, the heating comes on even though its switched off and its just getting beyond a joke now it takes an hour or more to run a bath by the time the water goes hot then cold then hot then cold etc.
could anyone tell me what the hell is wrong with it before i pull it off the wall.
many thanks in advance
Glen

hi brian
cheers for that, i got a friend of a friend to come service the boiler last week and he cleaned out the heatexchanger but found that a pin had snapped on something with a spring causing the heat to go to the central heating instead of the water(not sure what it was i was at work and wife's above description doesn't help me) anyway he changed the said component for one he had in service kit in his van and the water is now great. best of all it cost me just £50 for part and service.
cheers glen

it sounds as if the h/water heat exchanger needs cleaning you may also have a problem with the divertor valve but first clean heat exchanger try ariston web site for instructions
