Carver Carosel gas heater nto working?

I have a Lunar Clubman caravan 1983 with a Carver Carosel heater. The green light comes on (only one light) and then starts to 'flicker' as the ingnition sparks.
The sparks stop and the green light continues to flicker and the heater does not ignite.
Help please.
