Not usually. Most cars have cup and ball joints on the external link rods. Sounds as if one or more have worn and a ball has come out of a cup. You could push it back in temporarily, using something like a Mars bar wrapper around the ball to take up some slack. Longterm answer is to replace the link rod with new. My daughter has just had all 3 replaced on her Peugeot 405, cost about £50.
