How can I fix my camcorder? Sony ccd trv338?

I own a Sony Hi8 ccd trv338 camcorder I keep getting an error message cc 31 23 I go through the steps to reset it and still get the message. Sony wants $200 to send it back to them to see if they can repair it - ridiculous
