How to fix Briggs and Stratton Classic 35?

My Briggs and Stratton Classic 35 mower starts up ok but does not make the right sound for mowing. Its as if it cant make it to the next level. It stays in the "start up sound mode" without changing to the normal quieter running sound. I did take out the spark plug and clean it but it is still the same. Did use it like this just to finish the job. Any advice would be appreciated even if its "buy a new mower". Thank you.

Thats a great tip and should do the job, If that fails try changing the diaphram on the carb.

sounds like the ignition coil is rusted you need to take off the pull cord housing you will see the spark plug lead attached to the coil detach two bolts holding it down check the gap first so when you reset it you will get it right lift the coil away from the magnetic drum if it is rusted or has any deposits clean off with wire brush the drum and coil faces when its clean put a small amount of light oil onto the faces of the magnetic drum and the faces of the coil reset the gap leaving the feeler gauge between the face of the coil and magnetic drum tighten the two bolts when you have them tightened spin the drum by hand one complete turn check the gap again if it has remained correct refasten the pull cord housing if that doesn't work clean out the carburattore
