How do you change the ignition barrel on an 02 reg citreon berlingo van? I have a new barrel and key - but need to know how to replace, etc.

One of my owner drivers is having a problem this morning with his 2000 Berlingo van
He has stripped out the ignition but I understand that if you change the barrel the engine will not start as the new key is not programme to the ECU
How do you re programme it .Or does the dealer have to do it
