external hard disk usb2?

my computer can detect it but when i try to create a folder or copy one it says " the system cannot find the file specified" whether it is copying a folder or creating a new one..

i've tried to format it but it doesnt even turn up in the disk management page..

it shows up on My Computer as " local disk (G:)
what do i do? the same thing happens even when i connect it to another computer

Or you can right click over the 'Local Disk G:' Icon and select 'format'.

run the format comand from the run box by typing in cmd then when the command box opens type format *: replace the star with the drive letter then it will either do it or give the instruction so you can do it
