Foot brake wont disengage the tranmission lock-Auto GOLF4?

Hi. I have a 1999 V5 Auto with a problem starting to get worse over time. Usually when starting up , you have to press the brake pedal to get the transmission lever lock to disengage and be able to move out of 'P'.

I have to wait longer and longer wth the engine running before it disengages. Anyone know how to fix this?

You may have a problem with the brake switch, even if lights work OK.(different circuit). It has nothing to do with warming up. Try tapping on and off the brake a few times to see if it works quicker and if so get new switch. Also try moving the selector a bit away from its natural rest position as the release may be tight at that point. Does it try and click on brake apply?

Is the brake peddle switch working correctly.Could be a faulty brake light switch
