Memory Craft 8000?

My MC8000 when turned on makes a loud clanking noise. I was told I need a new top computer board. Is this expensive and is it something I could repair myself? I pretty good at repairing if I have a service manual.

Computer board for a clanking noise ? sounds a bit strange to me, sounds more mechanical, take out the bobbin and bobbin case and run the machine slowly and try and find out where the noise is coming from, try the simple things first such as a small piece of the thread stuck round the raceway causing the machine to labour, a new computer board is likely to cost you hundreds on any computerized machine and unless you have the proper body earth straps you are likely to blow any other components through static
