mazda 323F how to check if piston on rear brake is moving or seized?

handbrake not working too well and offside rear disc looks like it has not been in contact with the pad on one side. I tried to push the piston away from the pad but it seems stuck. Is there something that needs to be released before it will move?

Many thanks. It was just the bit about winding the piston that had me stuck. Its back in now with new pads on ready to be adjusted. Here's hoping for a clean M.O.T...

jack up wheel give wheel a spin and someone to press brake, see if wheel locks and try handbrake at the same time, these pistons must be wound back in there is a tool for it but sometimes a good pair of pointed pliers will do the job if they are not too tight
